Rahul Gandhi inspects projects under progress
January 28, 2010
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi began his two-day tour of his parliamentary constituency on Thursday. Soon after arrival at Indira Gandhi Udan Academy at 11.30 am, he straight headed for the proposed site of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT).
It may be mentioned, on February 20 in 2008, UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi had laid the foundation stone for RGIPT and on the occasion, Union petroleum minister Murli Deorea and Union state minister Dinsha Patel and MP Rahul Gandhi were present.
For the academic session for 2008-09, MBA and two technical courses of this institute are being conducted from the campus of Feroz Gandhi Institute of Technology. Delay in construction of the campus for RGIPT was caused due to late allocation of required land by the state government. In future, at RGIPT several UG, PG and research courses would be started.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and his accompanying entourage
after crossing Bahadurpur, Mohanganj and Jagdishpur, reached the industrial site, where plant of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is located. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi visited the steel plant.
In 1998, this steel plant was started as Malvika Steels by USHA Group, with plans to manufacture steel products from pig iron. However, the plant was shut down, largely due to its being sick. On February 27, 2009, this plant was taken over by SAIL and on the occasion, the then Union steel minister Ramvilas Paswan was present.
But, even after that no expected progress could be achieved in this plant and the reason attributed was lack of power. Despite requisition to UP Power Corporation for enhancing the electricity inputs, nothing was done in this regard.
After the visit to the industrial belt, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi via Jamo, reached Munshiganj guest house, where he deliberated on various issues with party workers of all rank and file. From there, he went to Purabgaon of Shahgarh block and participated in discussion with women self help groups.
